Autism-informed care
What an autism-informed draw looks like.
- A planning call first. Before the visit we learn what helps: the words to use (or not use), sounds and lights to avoid, where your child feels safest, and who should be in the room.
- Extra time, no rushing. We book a longer appointment. Your child controls the pace, the position (your lap, the couch, lying down), and what they watch or hold.
- The smallest needle for the job. We use a butterfly needle and make one careful attempt at a time. If your pediatrician prescribes a numbing cream, apply it before we arrive and we'll time the draw to it.
- You stay, and you hold. A parent is part of every draw. We explain each step in plain words, or skip the narration entirely, whichever your child prefers.
- If your child can't go ahead, we stop. No holding down, ever. We reschedule, and you pay only the visit fee. The visit fee is $50; the rest is refunded.

Scheduling
Best times for kids.
Saturday mornings, 8 to 11am, are the easiest fit for school-age kids. Weekday visits run 8am to 3pm, so after-school slots are limited; if you need one, call or text and we'll see what's open.
Get ready
Before the visit.
- Water through the morning (a hydrated child has easier veins)
- Warm hands: a warm bath or a blanket right before helps
- A snack beforehand unless the order says fasting
- A comfort item, a tablet, or a favorite show, ready to go
- Tell us about past draws, good or bad, on the planning call

What ages do you draw?
Most kids from toddler age up. For infants, call or text first so we can talk through the order.
Do you use numbing cream?
We don't prescribe it, but if your pediatrician does, apply it as directed before we arrive and we'll time the draw to it.
What if my child refuses?
No holding down, ever. We reschedule, and you pay only the visit fee. The visit fee is $50; the rest is refunded.
Can siblings be drawn in the same visit?
Yes. Each child is a separate draw at the pediatric rate, done back to back in one visit.
Where do results go?
We deliver the sample to your child's lab (Quest, LabCorp, or the hospital lab on the order) and results come back through your pediatrician or the patient portal.
